About Allison Walker
Education and Professional Background
I have a Masters of Science in Social Work and spent about a decade as a counselor working with children and families in some really challenging situations - kids in foster care, families working toward reunification, women experiencing domestic violence, and children and parents dealing with child abuse. That experience taught me how to sit with hard emotions, build trust, and help people find strength and clarity during life’s toughest moments.
I have a Juris Doctor and spent several years in family law and child advocacy. I worked as a Guardian ad Litem, advocating for children in the court system, and as a family mediator, helping parents navigate conflict and make decisions in the best interest of their kids.
Life Coaching
Becoming a life coach was a natural next step for me because my work has always been about helping people. I truly love walking alongside others as they work through hard seasons, figure out what they want next, and find clarity and direction again. Whether it is setting new goals, navigating conflict, or having a secure place to talk issues through, I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space where people feel seen and heard.
College Coaching
I’ve been working as a college coach since the fall of 2016, and it started with my own kids. When my oldest daughter was applying to Clemson Honors College and several other schools, I naturally leaned on my background in counseling and law - asking thoughtful questions and helping her uncover meaningful stories for her essays. The experience grew as my middle daughter applied to fourteen highly selective colleges and was accepted to Princeton University, and later when my youngest daughter applied to fourteen schools and was accepted to all of them. Along the way, I began working with other high school students, helping them work through the college application process with confidence - whether they were top students with strong test scores or students who struggled academically.
My goal as a college coach is to help students navigate the Common Application, identify their reach and safety schools, brainstorm about essays, identify the top 10 high school activities, edit essays, create resumes, write personal statements, and provide accountability for the application deadlines.
My process is asking authentic and prompting questions so that your student can reveal deeper thoughts, ideas and feelings to create an impactful essay for the college application. This process is also used when creating a personal statement. There is so much stress and anxiety surrounding the college application process. I create a calm and encouraging environment so that your student can work effectively and efficiently.
I will meet your student exactly where they are in this stage of their academic journey - whether they are the valedictorian or just thankful to make it through high school. I can help and will help.
